2023 1st Round Draft Grades

Grades For All 31 First-Round Picks

A Look at the Winners and Losers from Day 1 of the NFL Draft

By: Chad Reuter

The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft is in the books, and there were plenty of surprises. Some teams made great picks, while others left fans scratching their heads. Here are my grades for all 32 teams, based on their decisions from Day 1:

AFC East

Buffalo Bills: B

The Bills traded up to select James Cook, a running back from Georgia, with the 27th overall pick. Cook is a versatile back who can do it all, and he should be a good fit in Buffalo's offense. However, the Bills gave up a lot to move up, so they need Cook to be a star.

Miami Dolphins: A

The Dolphins had a great draft, starting with the selection of Tyreek Hill with the third overall pick. Hill is one of the most dynamic receivers in the NFL, and he should give Tua Tagovailoa a much-needed weapon. Miami also added Terron Armstead, a Pro Bowl left tackle, in free agency.

New England Patriots: C

The Patriots traded up to select Cole Strange, a guard from Utah, with the 29th overall pick. Strange is a solid player, but he's not a game-changer. New England also traded away some key players, so they'll need their young players to step up.

New York Jets: B+

The Jets had a solid draft, starting with the selection of Sauce Gardner, a cornerback from Cincinnati, with the fourth overall pick. Gardner is one of the best cornerback prospects in recent memory, and he should be a star in New York. The Jets also added Garrett Wilson, a wide receiver from Ohio State, with the 10th overall pick.
