London MP’s Vote to Back Delay in Leaving EU

Brexit was due to happen on March 29th WEB Either on 12th April if a deal is agreed or 22nd May if there is no deal

MPs have voted to delay Brexit until as late as June 30 following a day of high drama in Parliament. Eurosceptic Conservative MPs who had previously backed Theresa May's deal abstained on a vote on whether to reject a no-deal Brexit, leading to the defeat of the Government by 321 votes to 278.

this means the Prime Minister will now have to request a short delay to Brexit, probably of around three months, under a new law passed earlier this week.

The House then voted by 412 to 202 in favour of seeking a delay until June 30, which was the date proposed by the European Council and accepted by the UK government earlier this month.

The dramatic events in Parliament came after the EU had previously agreed to delay Brexit until May 22nd if MPs rejected Theresa May's deal but only if there was a deal in place by March 29th.

However, the Withdrawal Agreement has now been rejected three times by Parliament leading to the need for a further delay.

The UK is now due to leave the EU on April 12th if a deal is agreed by Parliament or on May 22nd if there is no deal.
