The men's decathlon at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, was held on September 28, 1988, at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.

Of the 32 competitors, 29 finished the competition.

The gold medal was won by Christian Schenk of East Germany with a score of 8488 points. The silver medal was won by Torsten Voss of East Germany with a score of 8399 points. The bronze medal was won by Dave Steen of Canada with a score of 8328 points.

The 1988 Olympic Games were the first time that the men's decathlon was contested at the Olympics. The event has been held at every Summer Olympics since then.
